About Us

Founded by a husband and wife team of Trista and Derrick Peterson, Clutch Sports Academy brings professional-level baseball and softball training to Toledo's aspiring athletes. With a state championship at Start High School, record-breaking career at Eastern Michigan University, and professional experience with the Cleveland Indians organization, Derrick combines elite-level knowledge with a passionate teaching approach that develops complete athletes. His personal journey through high school, college, and professional baseball provides unique insights that help young athletes understand and excel at every level of the game.

Using a blend of traditional training methods and cutting-edge HitTrax technology, our approach focuses on developing both physical skills and mental game awareness. Each athlete receives personalized attention and custom training plans designed to help them reach their full potential. Beyond baseball and softball skills, we're committed to building confident athletes who understand the value of hard work, teamwork, and dedication - creating an environment where young athletes can thrive both on and off the field.

My goal is to take everything I've learned through my journey in baseball - from high school state championships to professional baseball - and help young athletes not just develop their skills, but understand the game at a deeper level.

Meet Coach Justin Watts

Our Clutch Sports Academy family is growing! We're proud to welcome Coach Justin Watts to our team. Originally from Bryan, Ohio, Justin spent four years playing there before continuing on to a five-year collegiate career, which ultimately led to being drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Justin specializes in both baseball pitching and catching instruction, having competed at high levels at both positions. He is passionate about giving back the knowledge that was poured into him throughout his career and helping athletes reach their full potential.
